Aerial Ameden’s Poem — “Freedom”

A room fills with silence

Not a normal silence

But a cold, sad, eerie, silence

The only sound you hear is the click of their taps

As their feet hit the ground

The silence is a silence of a mourn

A mourn for those lost at war

A quiet

Still body fighting for somebody's freedom

Is staring straight back at me with

Cold dark eyes

Eyes that have seen young blood being spilled

Over a war

A war that had to be fought

Fought for freedom

Civil liberties

And rights

But most of all for freedom

So the reason they fought is a good reason

It’s the reason our fore fathers started our nation

Freedom

So they will not die in vain

The reason they left

Is the reason we came

It’s being named as freedom

And freedom has begun

Freedom to choose

Freedom to love

Freedom to fight for loved ones

For what is right

So as I sit here and listen to the steady clicks of their taps

I think Dear John you did not die in vain

No one will die in vain

The clicks start off

As the twelve guns salute begins

They hand us a flag

A tear falls

More blood has been spilt

But they haven’t died in vain

For freedom has begun
